Abstract

The conference entitled Education for Democracy—Judicial Independence and Conventionality Control, held on March 21, 2025, was an academic event organized by the Cooperative University of Colombia at Ibagué campus. It was broadcast live on the university's official YouTube channel.

The event featured two expert speakers who addressed fundamental questions related to human rights protection, judicial branch independence, and the strengthening of the rule of law in democratic and authoritarian contexts.

Among the central themes were a critical reflection on the instrumentalization of the judicial power in authoritarian regimes, the role of education in civic formation, and the application of conventionality control within the Inter-American system.

This academic space aimed to contribute to the legal, political, and social analysis of the Latin American context, promoting critical thinking, democratic awareness, and respect for constitutional and conventional principles.
